Tianjin Academy of Environment Sciences (TAES) was created in 1975, subordinated to Tianjin Environment Protection Bureau, is the largest environmental research institute in Tianjin.

As a non-profit institute, TAES is dedicated to providing support of environmental science and technology to government departments and society. TAES also provides technical and consultative service in the field of environmental protection to industry.

Since it was created, TAES has undertaken 203 national- or municipal- level research projects and obtained 146 scientific and technological awards. TAES was awarded as one of the National Top 80 Institutes for Management Science Research by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. It is also awarded as one of Top 10 Research Institutes in Tianjin by Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Commission.

TAES has 184 staffs, including 12 professorial senior engineers and 33 senior engineers. More than 30% staffs have the Doctor's or Master's Degree.

TAES has the master program in environmental science and engineering. In 2000, a PhD program in environmental management and sustainable development was established, collaborating with Hebei University of Technology. In 2004, a post-doctoral program was set up in TAES under authorization of Ministry of Personnel of PRC.

 

 

 

TAES has formed its innovative research system in environmental science and technology, consisting mainly of water environment, atmospheric environment, ecological environment, hazardous waste treatment and disposal, environmental planning and management, environmental policy, law and criterion, recycling economy and cleaner production, and so on. State Key Laboratory on Odor Pollution Control and Water Pollution Control Technological Committee of China Environmental Protection Industry Association is set up in TAES.

TAES is engaged actively in international technology exchange and cooperation, making efforts in introduction of advanced technology and equipment. TAES has established effective cooperation with oversea environmental institutions and enterprises in Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Australia, Thailand, Singapore and other nations.
